child predators
I found an article on msnbc.com about child preditors and hpw it used to be so much harder for people to find the children. It talked about how they used to have to go out in public and try to find kids in parks and entice them with candy or a puppy. Now all they have to do it get on the internet to find them. This has made the internet a scary place. The FBI said that 1 in 5 kids on the internet are sexually solicited. That is scary. 20% of all of the millions of kids on the web are being sexaully solicited. This makes me worry about 10 years from now when i have kids and they get on the internet. Im sure this problem is just going to grow. That is if we do not do anythign about it. This article did not say much about protecting our kids. It did give us advise on what to do and not to do. The article made a great point. It said to think of what you put on the internet as a tatto. Whta you put on there is perminant. Even if you try to erase it it is still kind of there. People can save whatever you put on there and use it against you later. This article is just one of many articles talking about how scary the internet has become. We need to do something about this. I have no clue whta we can do, bu Im sure some smart people somewhere can come up with some sollutions.

I completely agree with what you are saying about doing something about this problem, prevention or censorship anything to help. I think that the best thing that can be done right now is parents surveillance of internet use, it is like cable television having parental blocks but with the internet. Every computer and internet provider offers this feature, it is just the effort of the parent caring enough and taking the time to implement the privacy settings. I recently had a conversation with my mom about this exact topic, whether there are more predators now or whether there is the same amount but it is easier to find children and lure them in using other devices. I personally believe that these people have always been around but that because the internet makes it so easy that these people are just making themselves more noticed.
I would have to agree with you that it is so much easier for stalkers to meet children online then to meet them at parks or malls. Stalkers that are online can create profiles that are really not them but to children, it can lure them into believing it is somebody else. This is the advantage that online stalkers have. This post reminds me of a show I used to watch called "To Catch A Predator" where online predators get caught in the act of trying to seduce teenagers. Online stalkers come in all shapes and sizes.
Wow that is a high statistic regarding the solicitation of children. It’s scary to think of how easy it is now for predators to get to these little kids. It’s a good thing that these predators are being cracked down on but at the same time the thought of these people out there is flat out scary.
That statistic is crazy. Think about how many individuals there are that are interested in sexually soliciting children if as many as 1 in 5 children is being sexually solicited. It scares me to think about who these people are. There must be so many of them if that many children are being sexually solicited. I was thinking about my myspace and I think going through myspace and high school would have been so much harder in myspace was around. That age is tough enough for kids, the drama just gets mulitplied with avenues like myspace to harrass each other with.
